This hotel reputedly has the most hotel rooms of any in Europe. It's location next door to the airport indicates its role as a business and conference hotel. It is, perhaps, somewhat soulless - don't come here for your honeymoon! Despite proximity to the airport, planes were inaudible. The staff were exceptional - uniformly courteous and helpful. My room was absolutely spotless, with a nice array of toiletries (shampoo, bath gel, moisturiser, cologne, toothbrush & toothpaste, razor, etc). Towels were soft and fluffy. A dressing gown would have been nice after my soak in a nice full-size bath - increasingly uncommon in modern hotels. I would have liked tea and coffee-making facilities, but I did notice belatedly that I could have upgraded my room to de luxe for 15 euros - a bargain! The picture looked nice, at least. I ate in the hotel - the food was well above normal business hotel standard, ample and nicely presented. In short a good place to stay if you have an early flight, or business nearby, and don't need quirky character! I would happily stay there again, but would prefer somewhere actualluy in Madrid. I stayed at the Madrid Auditorium Hotel on December 4-7, 2014, where I attended a medical symposium with 615 participants from 44 countries plus 50 staff members from the sponsoring company. This is the biggest hotel in Europe with 870 rooms distributed between four buildings labelled Bloc 1 to 4. It also features a full blown convention center ("Principe Felipe") with the largest auditorium in Spain with 2.200 seats (which can be divided in two) and 27 halls of various sizes. It is located in industrial/commercial boondocks far away from Madrid (20 km) but very close to the airport. It has 1.000 parking spaces. Previous TripAdvisor contributors have compared it to a hospital but being a doctor I have seen better looking hospitals, I would rather liken it to a penitentiary (at least on first impression)... Lively when there is a convention, one gets a feeling of isolation in the vast corridors and atriums when it is only populated by the average tourist like the day I arrived (it was also off season)... The entrance lobby is majestic with a huge atrium with metal columns, two panoramic elevators, a massive crystal chandelier, and a striking installation of a crashed big red american 1959 Chevy Impala, called "Crash", by Spanish artist and designer Javier Mariscal (2005). It also had a big Christmas tree. The overall decoration is a bit quirky with sparse antiques, grandfather clocks, tapestries, inlaid wood tables, statues, flower paintings, and pianos that cannot be touched. My room was spacious and adequately if not imaginatively furnished, decorated with classic architecture gravures. The bed was large but with a rather hard mattress and minimalist pillows (long and narrow, I could probably have requested bigger ones), a wide desk, a mini-bar containing water (free), beer and soft drinks, free Wi Fi easily accessible, a flat TV and a safe. The bathroom was spacious and modern with a combined shower and bathtub, and well supplied. As pointed out by previous contributors, some room details would need attention: some gaps between the planks of the laminate wood flooring, black stains around the bathtub, the towel handle partially detached... Hopefully the franchising of the hotel by Marriott that I heard is planned for next year may help its modernization. This being said, I thought that the place was very well run. For one thing the staff was very courteous and efficient (from the front desk to the bar and restaurant to the buffet breakfasts and lunches). The lobby bar was relatively deserted when I was there and lacked atmosphere, but the bar staff was very friendly. A generous glass of decent white wine costed only 3,50 euros, always served with peanuts or chips. I had lunch there upon arrival the first day, they have a decent card of soup, salads, sandwiches and simple dishes. I had meat croquettes (6) that were very tasty. Also good list of alcohols. In the evening a pianist played (well). The breakfast and lunch buffets in the Buffet Madrid Room during my convention were diverse and scrumptious with a lot to choose from. Staff was efficient. They will bring coffee pots but there is also a counter with five Nespresso machines. The symposium dinner (for over 600 guests!) catered by the hotel (in the same hall where the meeting was held during the day) was very well organized. We had sangria outside the hall as welcome drink, then a seated dinner with three courses. The staff was incredibly efficient at bringing the food to everyone in a timely fashion. First course was a well prepared tomato and mozzarella concoction, followed by a beef steak that was warm, tender and tasty, and an elegant chocolate dessert. The spanish red wine was good and full-bodied. Last but not least, our symposium ran very smoothly and was very successful. The last evening after the symposium closed, I did not have the energy to go all the way to Madrid for dinner so I tried the hotel restaurant (El Gueridon) and found it quite satisfying, I am reviewing it separately. There are other facilities that I did not try: a cocktail bar, a games bar, a snackbar with food distributing machines, a swimming pool, a health club. All in all, my stay was very pleasant. As a convention and business hotel, I highly recommend it. I would not recommend it to a tourist looking for a convenient place to explore Madrid or to a couple in search of a cosy place for a romantic escapade. The prices look however very reasonable (I was invited and did not pay). Great hotel, close to the Airport and with a lot of things to do Highly recommendedLos clientes que han consultado Hotel Auditorium también han consultado estos hoteles en España
